Old Shoes, New Purpose: Eso Recycling turns used footwear into shock-absorbing surfaces

25 March 2026

The project “Old shoes, new purpose”, featured in the TG Poste broadcast on March 19, represents a concrete example of circular economy applied to end-of-life material management.

A key element of the initiative is the contribution of Eso Recycling, a company specialized in the recovery and valorization of complex waste, which managed the recycling process of worn-out footwear used by Poste Italiane mail carriers.

Once collected, the worn soles are sent to an industrial process that transforms them into shock-absorbing flooring designed for the play areas of the Postebimbi corporate nursery.

The result is a product that is safe, durable, and sustainable, created to improve the quality of spaces dedicated to children.

The initiative makes it possible to:
• significantly reduce waste sent for disposal
• recover materials and transform them into new resources
• generate a positive environmental and social impact

“Transforming waste into a resource is at the core of our work. Projects like this demonstrate how the circular economy can deliver tangible benefits for both people and the environment,” comments Eso Recycling.

Thanks to strategic collaborations with major companies, Eso Recycling continues to develop innovative solutions for material recovery, actively contributing to the spread of sustainable and responsible models.
